Luck of the Irish

There are so many great Irish films, it’s difficult to choose which ones to highlight.
“Michael Collins” is about the defeat of Irish rebels who are fighting for their country’s independence in the early 1900s. “In the Name of the Father” is about Gerry Conlon, who is falsely implicated in an IRA bombing. His friends and father are also accused of the crime. He spends 15 years trying to prove their innocence. Both of these movies are based on actual events.

The Irish also have a great sense of humor. “Waking Ned Divine” is about Irish villagers who go to great, and often humorous, lengths in order to share the winning lottery ticket—that belongs to an elderly man who died of shock upon discovering his win.
“In Bruges” is a dark comedy about two Irish hitmen who are sent to Belgium to hide out after a botched job. Ignoring their boss’s instructions to stay in hiding, they have a string of strange experiences with the locals, prostitutes and a dwarf American actor. In the end, their friendship is tested in a struggle to survive.
These are just a few movies that prove there is more talent than luck when it comes to anything Irish.
